The Miami Hurricanes earned another preseason accolade on Monday afternoon when they were ranked No.21 in the D1Baseball preseason poll. Miami comes into the season ranked because of a strong lineup that returns several key contributors from last season, although the Hurricanes must replace their entire starting rotation.
Miami’s opening opponent, Florida, was ranked No.1 in the poll, and the Gators are on their way to being the consensus preseason No.1 team; setting up a massive ranked matchup on the first weekend of the season between the Hurricanes and the Gators. The ACC was one of the most well represented conferences in the poll, with seven teams from the conference ranked ahead of the season.
The highest ranked ACC team was No.5 Louisville, the Cardinals were joined by No.13 NC State, No.15 Georgia Tech, No.16 Virginia, No.17 Wake Forest, and No.24 Florida State. Miami will play all of those teams this season; including NC State and Louisville, the two highest ranked ACC teams, on the road.
This poll sets up seven ranked matchups ahead of the season for the Hurricanes based off the sections of Miami’s schedule that are confirmed so far. It’s possible that this could be the toughest schedule the Hurricanes have ever played. When including possible mid-week matchups against FAU or FGCU, two teams perennially contending for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, the importance of the Hurricanes’ starting rotation and freshmen settling in early becomes clear.
The Hurricanes will begin their season on February 19. Miami finished 12-4 last season and stand a strong chance of returning to Omaha for the first time since 2016 in 2021. The full D1Baseball poll is available at the link in the tweet below:
