Week Four ProCane of the Week: S/Jaquan Johnson - An instrumental piece of the turnover chain era as he secured 11 turnovers during his college career, Jaquan Johnson secured his first NFL interception on Sunday in a 40-0 blowout over the Houston Texans. Johnson has primarily occupied a special teams role for the Buffalo Bills, but he played all 47 of Buffalo’s defensive snaps on Sunday, which marked the second most in his career.
Johnson’s stats have not always jumped off the page at the pro level as they did in college, but the three tackles and interception were a testament to his hard work and gritty play on special teams. Bills’ captain and defensive back, Micah Hyde, said Johnson has worked his ass off since he was drafted. He stepped up big time for usual starter, Jordan Poyer, as Johnson earned an 87.5 PFF grade, which was the second highest grade among Bills’ defensive players.

ProCanes Week Four Highlights:
Another recent ProCane DB, Deon Bush, shined as a starter for the Bears on Sunday as he tallied a career high nine tackles. Bush also nearly added an interception, but the call was overturned. Sticking with the defensive backs theme, Jaguars safety, Rayshawn Jenkins, turned in eight tackles, and Jets safety, Adrian Colbert, continues to be a mainstay in the Jets’ secondary as he added three tackles.
Moving closer up the formation, Raiders linebacker, Denzel Perryman, continues his tackling brigade as he added double-digit tackles once again with 12 total tackles - on the year he has 48 tackles, which is good enough for second in the NFL. Dolphins rookie defensive end, Jaelan Phillips, had his first career half sack. Bills rookie defensive end, Gregory Rousseau, added on two tackles, while Ravens veteran defensive end, Calais Campbell, had five tackles and three QB hits (highest-graded Raven according to PFF in Week four at 90.0, and highest-graded cumulatively at 88.9).

Week Five Projected ProCane of the Week: DE/Jaelan Phillips - Similar to his meteoric rise last year, Phillips seems to be finding his own right back at home in Miami with the Dolphins. His snap count was initially around a quarter of the game for defensive plays, but has since creeped closer to roughly half the game. Also of note, Phillips has the second highest pass rush win percentage among rookie defenders (only trailing Cowboys’ Micah Parsons), and has 10 pass rush pressures through four games
If that trend continues, he could be a regular player for the Fins and the key stats will follow as time continues. This week against the Bucs, he is facing a tough offensive line, However, the Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon proved last week that it is possible to get to Tom Brady if you have freakish athleticism and relentless pursuit capabilities - exactly the traits Phillips possesses.
