Week Five ProCane of the Week: DE/Gregory Rousseau - From last year to now, it has been a turbulent ride for Rousseau. Rousseau opted out in August 2020 for his final college season after he burst onto the scene the prior year. He then saw his draft stock dip as he went from a possible top-ten pick to borderline second-third round by some pundits. On draft night, Rousseau witnessed 29 teams pass on him but was ultimately picked by the Buffalo Bills.

Now, Rousseau is proving the doubters wrong as he is a key piece for Buffalo’s defense. In this past week of action, Rousseau tallied a sack and his first career interception against the defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.

ProCanes Week Five Highlights:

Not to be outdone, other uber-talented rookie defensive end, Jaelan Phillips, gathered his first career sack against another legend, Tom Brady. Phillips had four total tackles for the Fins as he continues to do thrive similarly to Rousseau. Another rookie defensive end, Giants Quincy Roche, got his first tackle of his career tackle, and nearly had an interception as well.

On the offensive side of the ball, tight end David Njoku, had a career day as he had seven receptions for 149 yards (both career highs), and a 71-yard touchdown. Njoku, similar to Rousseau, has had an up-and-down last year or two, as he was once on the trade block, but looks to has found his bearings in Cleveland despite a loaded tight end room.

On Monday Night Football, the veteran defensive end, Calais Campbell, reminded fans not to forget about him as he had four tackles, one tackle for loss, and a blocked field goal that helped Baltimore stage a massive comeback. Campbell’s blocked field goal came against second-year Colts kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship, who appears to have been dealing with a hip injury. Coincidentally, Blankenship will be replaced by other ProCane, Michael Badgley, who the Colts picked up this week. Defensive End, Al-Quadin Muhamad, also had a strong performance Monday Night as he had seven tackles and a half sack against Lamar Jackson.

Las Vegas Raiders linebacker, Denzel Perryman, continues his unreal season as he had 13 tackles this past week. Through five weeks, Perryman led the entire NFL with 60 total tackles.

Week Six Projected ProCane of the Week: TE/David Njoku - Njoku arguably could have been the ProCane of the week this past week but Rousseau just so happened to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week at the same time. Njoku’s success could carry into this week as they face the undefeated Arizona Cardinals. With Nick Chubb out for the Browns, Njoku could be a primary target for Baker Mayfield again this week.
