Happy Tuesday morning everyone. Let’s get the day started with some Canes.
QB Tyler Van Dyke, S James Williams win Weekly ACC Awards
After their outstanding performances in the Canes’ 38-34 win over the then-17th ranked Pittsburgh Panthers, Miami Hurricanes QB Tyler Van Dyke and S James Williams were named the ACC Rookie and DB of the week!

The pair was already at the top of our 3 Stars from the win, so this isn’t a surprise around these parts. Both Van Dyke and Williams were instrumental in leading Miami to victory, so them winning their individual ACC awards fits 100%.
This is Van Dyke’s second consecutive week winning the Rookie of the Week award. Miami’s Super Freshman QB has led the Canes to consecutive wins over ranked teams, 18th ranked NC State and 17th ranked Pitt. And let’s check his numbers over the last 2 weeks right quick:
Miami freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke has been a revelation for UM. In his last two games: 57-75 753 yards, 7 TDs, 1 INTs and he’s done it against the ACC’s two best defenses. Canes offense has really come to life getting two big wins over Top 20 opponents.

Yeah. That’ll work.
For Williams, this is his inaugural award. After leading the team in tackles, using his imposing 6’5” 220lb frame to disrupt plays and end others, and securing an interception that ended Pitt’s final drive of the day, Williams rightfully earned this recognition as ACC Defensive Back of the Week.
This is the first of what will surely be many awards for Williams, a 5-star recruit from Plantation (FL) American Heritage who is uncommonly large and uncommonly talented for his position. Williams is the kind of talent that has gotten away from Miami far too often over the past decade, and he is growing by leaps and bounds as he continues through a freshman year which started with him as a rotation player off the bench and has now seen him become a featured starter at a key position.
Congrats to both Tyler and James! Keep it going!
Let’s Go To The Video Tape
Obviously, watching games — especially wins — is fun! But after the fact, reviewing the game to figure out exactly how things happened is even more fun. To that end, you should check out Roman Marciante’s Student of the Game film review.

The Miami Hurricanes went into Pittsburgh and beat their second ranked opponent in consecutive weeks. TVD and the offense once again provided the fireworks. https://t.co/H5QzMulY1X pic.twitter.com/yz9AgYZgPc
Miami Penalized for Too Many Headsets
On Monday afternoon, the ACC announced that Miami would be penalized in the Georgia Tech game based upon having used too many headsets/communication devices last weekend during the win at Pitt.
Miami will be have fewer headsets for its next game after violating the headset rules on Saturday. That’s a new one. pic.twitter.com/H5tf0C5yMv

Of course there are rumors about what happened. And of course, there are jokes. But, let’s be sure to not run afoul of this rule again. And hopefully being down a couple headsets this week against Georgia Tech won’t be any kind of big deal.
