Alex Toral and Alejandro Rosario led the No.8 Miami Hurricanes to a 10-0 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday night. The Hurricanes moved to 7-4 (4-3 ACC) on the season with the win. Miami put together their best performance of the season so far with 11 hits and four walks on offense to go along with a shutout and 10 strikeouts on the mound.
Neither team could score until the bottom of the third. With two outs, Jordan Lala reached on a walk and then stole second. Anthony Vilar followed Lala with an infield single, and Lala scored when Wake Forest shortstop Michael Turconi missed the throw to first base while trying to get Vilar out.
Miami pulled away in the bottom of the fifth with a five run inning. A walk and a single gave the Hurricanes two men on with two-out for Adrian Del Castillo. Wake Forest intentionally walked Adrian Del Castillo to face his older brother Christian, who stepped up with a two-RBI double to give Miami a 4-0 lead. Alex Toral followed Del Castillo with his first homerun of the year to make the score 6-0.
Alejandro Rosario took advantage of the lead his offense gave him. The freshman was spectacular in his first Friday night start. He pitched seven innings of one hit baseball and struck out a career-high seven batters.
