The Miami Hurricanes finished their regular season with a 80-76 win on Friday night over the Boston College Eagles. The Hurricanes finished the season 8-16 (4-15 ACC) and are 13th in the ACC this season.

The Hurricanes again played just six scholarship players and seven overall on Friday night. Kam McGusty led the Hurricanes with 27 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Nysier Brooks was also excellent, with 21 points and four rebounds for the Hurricanes. Anthony Walker also had a good night, with 17 points and seven rebounds to continue his strong end to the season.

Boston College was led by James Karnik who had 15 points and five rebounds on the evening. Fellow senior Frederick Scott was also key for the Eagles tonight, with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Miami led for nearly the entire game and Boston College’s largest lead of the evening was a two point lead with 3:40 left to play in the game. The game was close for much of the first half with the Hurricanes pulling out to a seven point lead with 3:45 left in the half before Boston College fought back to cut the deficit to just three at the break.

The second half was even closer and the lead changed four times in the first 10 minutes of the half. Much of the game saw each team stay within one possession of each other with neither team gaining control.

Miami started to gain control with just under ten minutes left in the game. An Anthony Walker and-one and an Isaiah Wong three-pointer gave the Hurricanes their largest lead of the game at nine points with eight minutes left in the half. However, Boston College would fight back as the game entered its’ final moments.

A 9-0 run from the Eagles that culminated in a Kamari Wilson three-point shot and two free throws from James Karnik saw Boston College briefly gain the lead with under four minutes to play. Kam McGusty responded for the Hurricanes with seven straight points to give Miami a 73-68 lead with two minutes left in the game.

Free throws from Anthony Walker and Kam McGusty helped Miami maintain the lead, but Frederick Scott hit a three-pointer to get the Eagles to within one possession of Miami with six seconds left in the game. Fortunately, Isaiah Wong made a free throw on the Hurricanes’ last possession to ensure Miami would end their regular season with a win,

Nysier Brooks and Kam McGusty earned Miami the victory on a night where the Hurricanes shot %42.9 from the field. Miami outrebounded the Eagles and also managed to turn the ball over just seven times compared to Boston College’s 11.

Miami now turns their attention to the ACC Tournament from March 9 through March 13. The Hurricanes will play on Tuesday and their seeding is not yet final for the tournament.
