Boston College 13, Miami 0: Hurricanes Struggle in Friday Night Loss

The Miami Hurricanes dropped to 23-14 (14-13 ACC) on the season after a 13-0 loss to the Boston College Eagles on Friday night. The Hurricanes had just two hits during the game despite Boston College entering the weekend as the last-placed team in the ACC.

Boston College started the scoring early with a five run first inning. A leadoff single started the inning for BC before two quick outs nearly got Miami out of the jam. However, three straight singles scored two runs before a three-run homerun from Dante Baldelli made the score 5-0.

Miami starter Alejandro Rosario continued to struggle in the bottom of the second, when the Eagles added another two runs. A single started the inning for Boston College and a throwing error allowed the runner to advance to second base. A single from Cody Morissette scored a run and yet another error advanced Morissette to second base. BC’s third hit of the inning followed to score Morissette and make the score 7-0.

The Eagles extended the lead by adding a run in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth a leadoff double gave Boston College a runner in scoring position with nobody out. The runner advanced to third on a groundout before scoring on an infield single. In the fifth yet another leadoff double put the Eagles in a good position to extend the lead when a passed ball advanced the runner to third before the run scored on a sac-fly, which was Boston College’s third unearned run of the game.

Boston College scored four runs in the seventh inning to put the game completely out of reach of the Hurricanes. A single and a walk started the inning for BC, before a one-out RBI-single made the score 10-0. With runners on the corners Cody Morissette came to the plate and continued his great day swinging the bat with a three-run homerun that made the score 13-0 in favor of the Eagles.

The Hurricanes had just two hits over the entire game. An Anthony Vilar double in the top of the first, and a single from Christian Del Castillo in the top of the ninth. Miami pitching allowed 16 hits and four walks, allowing 20 total baserunners for Boston College. To make matters worse, Miami struck out 11 times during the game.

Saturday, the Hurricanes will hope to have a much better overall performance with Alex McFarlane on the mound.
