The Miami Hurricanes moved to 29-16 (17-15 ACC) with a 5-4 comeback win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon. Miami’s Sunday afternoon comeback gave the Hurricanes a much-needed series win heading into the last week of the season as Miami looks to improve their seeding for the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.

Hurricanes starter Jake Garland worked a solid first four innings for Miami. Garland allowed just one run on a sac-fly through his first four innings of work before running into trouble in the fifth. A single followed by back-to-back homeruns gave Georgia Tech three-runs in the inning and made the score 4-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets after five innings.

Fortunately for Miami the bullpen kept Georgia Tech scoreless for the remainder of the game and allowed the offense to finish an incredible comeback. Hurricanes relievers worked 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit to finish out the game and played a key role in the series victory for Miami this weekend.

Miami’s comeback started in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anthony Vilar walked to give the Hurricanes a baserunner with one out before Adrian Del Castillo singled to move Vilar to third. Miami’s first run of the game scored when Christian Del Castillo grounded out to first base and Vilar scored on the play.

A four run bottom of the seventh inning gave the Hurricanes the late lead. Three straight walks loaded the bases for Miami with nobody out in the inning. Jared Thomas struck out for the first out of the inning, but Tony Jenkins scored two runs with a clutch double that made the score 4-3. Another walk loaded the bases yet again for Adrian Del Castillo, who hit a two-run single that completed the comeback and gave Miami a late 5-4 lead.

Carson Palmquist worked two scoreless innings to earn his twelfth save of the season and complete the series win for the Hurricanes. Miami will hope the comeback and series win will help build momentum heading into a vitally important last week of the regular season.
