Miami got more good recruiting new on Sunday evening when Mandeville (LA) 3-star WR Landon Ibieta announced his commitment to the Canes at the end of his official visit to Coral Gables.

At 6’1” 185lbs, Ibieta is solidly built for a receiver. He may be ranked as a 3-star, but routinely outperforms that ranking when on the field, in pads or 7v7s, or 1v1s at camps. A star on the Bootleggers 7v7 team, Ibieta can often be found running behind defenders who are tasked with keeping him in front of them and out of the endzone, something they routinely struggle to do, regardless of ranking.

Ibieta is the 2nd commitment in as many days for the Canes. He follows 4-star CB Khamauri Rogers, a 7v7 teammate of his on the Bootleggers, in committing to Miami on their OVs this weekend. Ibieta told former SOTU contributor Gaby Urrutia, now at 247sports’ InsideTheU, that he and Rogers actually committed at the same time, while on South Beach on their OVs. The commitment was made public today.
Miami now holds 4 committments in the 2022 class: Ibieta, Rogers, 4-star QB Jacurri Brown, and 3-star WR Quan Lee.
At present, Ibieta is ranked as the #763 player overall in this class, #33 in the State of Louisiana, and #99 WR on the 247sports composite. Ibieta has consistently performed at a higher caliber than that ranking would lead you to believe, and Miami did well to make a move early to lock down his commitment before his recruitment blew up to a bigger level.
Ibieta committed to Miami over 7 other offers, of which Virginia and Louisiana Tech were the headliners.
To see what kind of player Miami is getting in Ibieta, one who performs well above his current recruiting ranking, check out the HUDL highlights below. Trust me, you’re gonna like what you see.
