Storm Center: August 30th. Avantae Williams reinstated; Alabama looms

Let’s get your Monday started with some Canes

NCAA Football: ACC Kickoff Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to Miami Hurricanes football season! It’s game week, and the summer is over. We’re pushing quickly toward the season opener this Saturday afternoon against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

With the season here, we’re bringing back Storm Center, your daily recap of Miami Hurricanes news and notes. Let’s get started

S Avantae Williams reinstated by University, Football Program

On July 22nd, Miami Hurricanes S Avantae Williams was dismissed from the University of Miami and its football program after being charged with domestic violence.

In the intervening time, the cahrges against Williams in this incident were dismissed by the State of Florida.

Following the dismissal of the charges against Williams, the University and Athletic Department reinstated Williams on August 29th, just over a month from the date of his dismissal.

Just based upon the timeline, I find it unlikely that Williams will suit up for Miami in the opener against Alabama this weekend. But, if he meets the requirements set forth by the Athletic Department, it stands to reason that Williams will make his on-field debut for the team sometime this fall.

We’ll obviously have more about this return in the future, but for now we continue to wish Avantae Williams the best, and welcome him back to the team.
