ProCanes Week Two Highlights and NFL Week Three Preview

Recent Hard-Working Wide Receivers Outta the U, KJ Osborn and Braxton Berrios, Lead The Way For ProCanes With Impressive Performances

Week Two ProCane of the Week: WR/KJ Osborn - In the Cardinals-Vikings 34-33 game last Sunday, the standout wide receivers for fantasy purposes for each respective team ended up being Rondale Moore for Arizona and KJ Osborn for Minnesota. The first stands only 5’7” but is a former four-star recruit and is uber-athletic, which resulted in his second round draft slot. The latter is a former two-star recruit who had to wait until the sixth round to get his name called on draft night in 2020, who is the poster child of the “make-it” attitude due to his countless hours after practice spent at the JUGS machine.

So, it was somewhat of a surprise in a game that featured some of the NFL’s best in Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, Deandre Hopkins, and AJ Green (okay fine, maybe this one a few years removed), that it was Osborn who hauled in a 64-yard TD reception to start the game (the first of his career). And then down the stretch in the fourth quarter, he held onto two more Kirk Cousins’ slant passes that should have set up for the Vikings win (if not for a missed field goal in the final seconds). Osborn finished the day with six targets, five receptions, 91 yards, and his first NFL TD.

I alluded to the fact that Osborn could be a sneaky fantasy pickup last week, but now the secret is out as he was a prime target on most waiver wires. Not only that, but Osborn will be relied upon in the coming weeks as the clear third wide receiver option behind Jefferson (who was only a three-star and barely recruited) and Thielen (who was a no-star recruit and settled for a $500 scholarship to Minnesota Manketo).

ProCanes Week Two Highlights:

Another hard-working, gritty receiver outta the U is also making noise despite being part of a loaded slot receiver room on the New York Jets. Braxton Berrios was QB Zach Wilson’s favorite target on Sunday in a losing effort against Berrios’ former team, the Patriots, as he hauled in seven receptions for 73 yards (career high). While seemingly a less popular option on the fantasy waiver wire, Berrios, through two games, currently has more targets than AJ Brown, Adam Thielen, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Mike Evans & Davante Adams, more yards than Calvin Ridley, Metcalf, Corey Davis, & Chase Claypool, more catches than Justin Jefferson, Deandre Hopkins, & Julio Jones, and more PPR points than Allen Robinson. Although Berrios could see his production decline as the Jets expect Jamison Crowder back, the numbers don’t lie!

Next up is on the defensive side, as linebacker Denzel Perryman is making some serious noise for the Las Vegas Raiders as he tallied a career high twelve tackles this past week. Perryman currently has the third most tackles in the NFL with 22 combined total tackles through two games. While on the subject of career highs, Buffalo Bills safety, Jaquan Johnson, who typically patrols a special teams role, garnered a career high four tackles in the Bills’ 35-0 victory. Bills defensive end and rookie, Gregory Rousseau, also strung together career highs in tackles (five) and sacks (two) - not bad for a player who sat out all last season. And while on the subject of first career statistics, rookie Miami DE Jaelan Phillips and third-year Tampa Bay DB Dee Delaney each had three tackles, which were the first in their career. At the safety position, Jets, Adrian Colbert, and Jaguars, Rayshawn Jenkins, tallied five and six tackles, respectively.

Week Three Projected ProCane of the Week: DE/Gregory Rousseau - From last year to now, it has been a turbulent ride for Rousseau. Rousseau opted out in August 2020 for his final college season after he burst onto the scene the prior year. He then saw his draft stock dip as he went from a possible top-ten pick to borderline second-third round by some pundits. On draft night, Rousseau witnessed 29 teams pass on him but was ultimately picked by the Buffalo Bills. Since then, the rangy edge defender has thrived as he had five tackles and two sacks in last week’s 35-0 victory back in Hard Rock Stadium against the Dolphins. Expect Rousseau to continue his rookie of the year quest this week against the Washington Football Team, where he could get some repetitions against former Canes’ first round offensive lineman, Ereck Flowers.
