ACC Power Rankings- Week 1

How far did the Canes fall after a tough opening loss to Alabama?

Not the start the ACC wanted on a national scale as Clemson lost in a marquee matchup to Georgia, and our Canes got destroyed by Alabama. The other favorite in the conference North Carolina really struggled in Blacksburg in a season opening conference loss. What does that all mean? Shakeup in our power rankings.

  1. Clemson (0-1) - They don’t look like the same team without Trevor Lawrence or Travis Etienne, but the loss to UGA won’t drop them very far. Next Game: South Carolina St

2. Virginia Tech (1-0) - A huge 17-10 win over UNC gives them a leg up in the Coastal early on. Next Game: MTSU

3. Miami (0-1) - It was never competitive against Alabama, but what does it say about the Canes? Are they that bad or is Bama that good? I’ll go with Bama being that good. Next Game: Appalachian St

4. North Carolina (0-1) - We saw quickly how important Javonte Williams and Michael Carter were to this offense. Sam Howell struggled in a loss to VT. Next Game: Georgia St

5. North Carolina St (1-0) - They dominated South Florida 45-0. Zonovan Knight ran for 163 and a score. Next Game: @ Mississippi St

6. Boston College (1-0) - Easy win 51-0 over Colgate Next Game UMASS

7. Pittsburgh (1-0) - 51-7 win over UMASS was expected and easy. The test gets tougher this week. Next Game: @Tennessee

8. Virginia (1-0) - Brennan Armstrong threw for 339 and 2TDs in a 43-0 win over William & Mary. Next Game: Illinois

9. Wake Forest (1-0) - The offense rolled in an easy 42-10 win over Old Dominion. Next Game: Norfolk St

10. FSU (0-1) - The Noles look improved from a year ago and almost pulled a huge comeback until they missed a FG in OT to lose 41-38 to Notre Dame. Next Game: Jacksonville St

11. Syracuse (1-0) - The Orange won a game 29-9 over Ohio and move up. Next Game: Rutgers

12. Louisville (0-1) - They were run out of the building by Ole Miss 43-24. Their offense struggled for most of the game. Next Game: Eastern Kentucky

13. Georgia Tech (0-1) - Losing 22-21 to Northern Illinois is unacceptable. Geoff Colins is on the hot seat. Next Game: Kennesaw St

14. Duke (0-1) - Losing to Charlotte let’s you know exactly where Duke is and will probably stay. Next Game: NC A&T

As you can see it is a light week of games, but teams that struggled in week one need to make changes and improve before they fall down the power rankings.
