The Miami Hurricanes came up short of pulling off a big upset against the Louisville Cardinals in front of a sparse Hard Rock Stadium crowd today, 38-31. TVD returned as the Canes’ starting quarterback..and he didn’t look that bad. Now Miami fans have to turn around and root for Louisville against FSU in the ACC Championship Game in two weeks.
Let’s get to the three stars of the game.
1. Mark Fletcher Jr.
The freshman running back played his best game of his young career today. Fletcher finished the game with 17 carries for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus a nice 25-yard catch and run. He ran hard up the middle and showed speed I did not know existed. Fletcher is the clear number one running back on the Canes. He has a bright future.

2. Kiko Mauigoa
Miami’s middle linebacker was all over the place again today. I love watching this dude play defense. He finished with 7 total tackles and a near interception. I have no idea what his plans are for next year, but I sure hope he comes back for his senior season. Mauigoa would be welcomed back by his teammates, coaches, and fans with open arms.

3. Xavier Restrepo
Miami’s number one receiver went off today, hauling in 8 receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown. He was sure-handed, got down the field, and made plays after the catch. It was an impressive all-around performance for #7. Yeah, his numbers were padded with the catch on the last play of the game. Nonetheless, Restrepo is likely to be an All-ACC receiver this season. Well deserved.

Honorable mention:
None - I am frustrated the Canes let this one slip away. Today’s game was there for the taking.
