Twas the Night Before Signing Day

Twas the night before Signing Day when all through the Gables, every coach’s thumbs were stirring, most furiously Cristobal’s. Texts are being sent by the staff with care, in hopes that blue chippers would soon sign here.

The recruits are all nestled snug in their beds, while visions of championships danced in their heads. And once their LOIs are signed and ceremonies complete, they’ll settle in for training camp in just a few weeks.

When out the television there arose such a clatter, so I turned up the volume to see what was the matter. Away to Tuscaloosa flew a Miami commit, causing a flurry of tweets from know-it-all pundits.

Poaching season is here there is no escape, for other coaches are rounding their own classes into shape. Then what to my wondering eyes should appear, but another school’s commit is visiting here.

With an NIL contract so juicy and thick, I knew in a moment that recruit would sign quick. Then more prospects arrived, so quickly they came, that recruiting services had trouble tracking every name.

“Welcome Lyle, Welcome Lightfoot” both flipped from the Buckeyes who don’t matter. “Welcome to our receivers Carr, Robinson, and Trader.” “Welcome to Blount,” the new big man on D, and “Welcome to Patterson,” our highly ranked safety.

These are just a few of those pledged to Mario, and with a little Mario magic more will surely follow. With each new announcement up the rankings the ‘Canes flew, raising the expectations of boosters and fans too.

And then, in a bubbling, you can hear in the Hecht kitchen, cafecito is brewing for the man on a mission. So begins this year’s recruiting final round, and the Hurricanes are ready with caffeine abound.

It’s not just Cristobal working alone, ‘cause Dawson and Guidry are glued to their phone. Each had names circled on their yellow notepad, they wanted their pledge, they wanted them bad.

The big board how it twinkled, all the names how merry! This roster was filling up like a pie full of cherries! Coach Cristobal smiled, his mouth drawn up like a bow, just a few more hours until the start of the show.

But then Mario’s mind began to wander about, so he swallowed the croqueta he just shoved in his mouth. “Where is Alex?” Mirabal he meant, “why hasn’t Cam Ward signed his offer letter yet?” The o-line coach shrugged because it wasn’t quite clear, whether the prized transfer quarterback was joining them here.

“Did he not like Prime 112? Did he not like Rick? Does he not realize living in Tallahassee is shit!?!?” “Just give him a few more days “ Mirabel replied, “worst case scenario, Emory is our guy.”

Cristobal huffed and went back to his work, he needed more options since Emory was hurt. The kid had spunk, he even beat Clemson, but Miami’s depth is too thin at the most important position.

And so another recruiting season comes to a close. When will the “U be back,” still nobody knows. But for us faithful fans, recruiting is where hope is most bright. So, every year we wish one another “Happy Signing Day to all, and to all a good-night!”
