Week two bowl games lines and picks

NCAA Football: Holiday Bowl-North Carolina at Oregon Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Thursday, folks. Hope you all enjoyed early signing day yesterday. I, like most Cane fans, surely did. Hopefully that momentum carries into some good portalmania for us in the coming days and weeks.

Anywho, back to bowl talk. I went 5-3 last week after Old Dominion’s complete and total collapse cost me a very shiny 6-2 record. Oh well. Still a winning mark. Turning the page to week two.

As usual, all lines are courtesy of our friends over at DraftKings Sportsbook.

And now, on with this week’s picks...

December 21

Boca Raton Bowl

USF (+3.5) vs. Syracuse

I like what Alex Golesh has done in Tampa this year, and the Bulls finished strong to reach a bowl game. I’ll bank on them keeping that momentum going today.

December 22

Gasparilla Bowl

UCF (-4.5) vs. Georgia Tech

Call this one a gut pick. The Knights have looked awesome at times (i.e., destruction of Oklahoma State at home), so I’m more comfy going with them in this spot.

December 23

Birmingham Bowl

TROY (-7.5) vs. Duke

This game is in Troy’s backyard and Duke is without Leonard Riley and Mike Elko. Reason enough for me.

Camellia Bowl

N. ILLINOIS (+2.5) vs. Arkansas State

This is based solely on my lack of belief in Arky St. head coach Butch Jones. And hey, NIU won at BC this year, so that’s something.

Armed Forces Bowl

AIR FORCE (+1.5) vs. James Madison

JMU’s been legitimately good this year but this line has been slipping towards Air Force. I’ll take the Falcons in a close one.

Idaho Potato Bowl

UTAH STATE (-2.5) vs. Georgia State

Two mediocre 6-6 teams with a coin flip line. My coin came up USU.

68 Ventures Bowl

SOUTH ALABAMA (-17) vs. Eastern Michigan

South Alabama blew the doors off Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Don’t know about fellow 6-6 team Eastern Michigan, but that performance is good enough to sell me that S. Alabama wins handily.

Las Vegas Bowl

UTAH (-6.5) vs. Northwestern

Northwestern has had an incredible season after the offseason mess with Pat Fitzgerald, but come on. Utah is far too talented at just about every position. Utes win this one big.

Hawai’i Bowl

COASTAL CAROLINA (+9.5) vs. San Jose State

With Grayson McCall in the transfer portal, this seems like a lost cause for the Chanticleers, but I have a feeling they still find a way to keep this close a quarter of the way around the world from home.

December 26

Quick Lane Bowl

MINNESOTA (-3.5) vs. Bowling Green

The Gophers just find ways to win bowl games. They’ve won six straight going back to 2015. They make it seven here.

First Responder Bowl

TEXAS STATE (-5.5) vs. Rice

Texas State was pretty plucky when they throttled Baylor this year. Rice won’t be able to keep up.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl

UNLV (+12.5) vs. Kansas

I think the Jayhawks, who have had a very good season, find a way to win, but I think will be a four-quarter game. 12.5 points is too much to ask Kansas to lay, so I’ll take them with the Runnin’ Rebels.

December 27

Military Bowl

TULANE (+10.5) vs. Virginia Tech

I know Tulane is without QB Michael Pratt and saw its coach leave for the Houston job, but there’s still too much talent on the roster to get bombed by a 6-win Virginia Tech team. Give me the points.

Duke’s Mayo Bowl

WEST VIRGINIA (-6.5) VS. North Carolina

I won’t say the same thing about UNC without Drake Maye. The Tar Heels were getting boat raced even WITH their star QB late in the year, so I don’t think they keep it a one score game without him.

Holiday Bowl

USC (+7.5) vs. Louisville

My word, what a mess USC has become. The once-proud program has seen everyone under the sun bolt for the portal lately, it seems. Even still, the Cardinals have been pathetic the last two times out against Kentucky and Florida State. I’ll take my chances with the Trojans and points here out on the West Coast.

Texas Bowl

OKLAHOMA STATE (+2) vs. Texas A&M

The old Big 12 foes meet up in Houston. With as much attrition as A&M has had recently, I’m shocked they’re favored. As such, I’ll take Okie State and the points here.
