2023 Pinstripe Bowl: Three Stars

The Canes come up short in NYC.

The Miami Hurricanes continued their tradition of losing bowl games today, falling to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the 2023 Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium, 31-24. The Canes had several opt outs (not on the FSU level). That said, they should have come away a winner against Greg Schiano’s squad.

Let’s get to the three stars of the game.

1. Xavier Restrepo

Miami’s top wide receiver capped off an awesome 2023 season with 11 catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. It should’ve been two touchdowns, but the ACC refs made the call to ensure the Canes lose out on points yet again this season. I’m kidding, but Miami has now had three legit scores taken off the board due to poor (I’m being kind by saying poor) officiating. Still, X set the Miami single-season record with 85 receptions. He also finished with 1092 yards and 6 touchdowns. Restrepo was a consistent producer and should only improve his skills for 2024.

2. Cam Ward

I’m not hiding my bias here. Why would I? I write for a Miami Hurricanes fan site. I want to see Cam Ward as Miami’s QB1 for the 2024 season. We need him. The dude was dynamic all season for Washington State. I would be extremely excited to see what he’s capable of in Shannon Dawson’s offense. I have to assume Coach Cristobal and his staff are recruiting him hard. Let me provide some assistance: come on down Cam! Coral Gables is beautiful! Playing in the ACC is better than playing in the Mountain West, right? Right?! All kidding aside, I truly believe Cam Ward can do something special with this offense next year.

3. Canes football fans

2023 was an up-and-down season. The high of the Texas A&M win. The low of the inexcusable Georgia Tech loss. The thrilling Clemson win with Emory Williams at QB. The putrid offensive performance against NC State. The exciting, near upset of Florida State. Losing to Florida State again. A win today would’ve been a nice way to end the year, but whatever. It’s all about 2024 for Coach Cristobal and his program. And with the recruiting class they brought in, it better be.

Honorable mention:

None - I am looking forward to conference play in basketball. Canes hoops! Let’s go!
