In a stunning turn of events, former Washington State QB Cameron Ward has decided to forego the 2024 NFL Draft and instead transfer to the University of Miami!

Despite previously saying that he was going to the NFL Draft, Ward was relentlessly pursued by Mario Cristobal and the Canes staff. Knowing there was a gap at the top of the roster, the elite recruiting coached leverage all his skills and abilities, and that led to today’s commitment from Ward.

With Ward onboard, Miami now has their clear and unquestioned starting quarterback for the 2024 season. The Texas-native Ward has posted incredible statistics in previous stops at Incarnate Word and Washington State. In his 2 years at Wazzu, Ward posted 6.968 yards on 65.5% completions with 48 TDs and 16 INTs, while adding 13 rushing TDs, and a receiving TD on a trick play.

The 6’2” 223lb Ward was clearly the top player at the QB position in the transfer portal this cycle. After former starter Tyler Van Dyke departed (it was clear he needed to leave) for Wisconsin, Miami made Ward the focus of their recruiting at the position. While Miami did add Albany’s Reese Poffenbarger — FCS’s leading passer — last week, they never stopped recruiting Ward. Now, their persistence has paid off and Miami has an elite CFB QB to lead their team into the 2024 season.

This is a massive, seismic recruiting win for Mario Cristobal and company. A legit NFL Draft prospect is coming to Coral Gables to elevate the talent on the roster, and the performance on the field at the most important position in the sport. I cannot impress upon you how huge this is.

So there you have it. Cam Ward, Miami Hurricanes Starting Quarterback.

Let’s get it!!!
