DeQuan Jones can really get up!
DeQuan Jones can really get up!

The Orlando Sentinel reported on Saturday, that UM alum and undrafted free agent DeQuan Jones has made the Orlando Magic's roster.

Jones finished the preseason averaging 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, on 61.5 percent shooting from the floor. But the attributes that most likely helped DQJ make the team are his athleticism and ability to guard multiple positions. Jones also wowed the team with a plethora of high flying dunks in the preseason.

Our take: This is actually not that big of a surprise to me. Jones was a high four star, low five star guy coming out of high school. And although he never scored more then 16 points in a contest, and managed only 5.8 ppg as a senior, you could see he had abilities NBA scouts covet. Last season he really flourished as a defender, and often played very valiantly out of position at the 4. Jones will never be a big time scorer, but can guard shooting guards, small forwards, and some power forwards adeptly. Coach Jim Larranaga and staff deserve a lot of credit for getting DeQuan to accept he is more Ruben Patterson/Anthony Bonner then Kobe Bryant. By the way, if DQJ becomes an NBA dunk contest contestant as a rookie, we would not be shocked.

Congratulations and Good Luck DeQuan!!!

Here are some UM highlights of Jones:

This probably didn't hurt his chances either:
