What's Next For Canes Basketball?

The 2012-13 Miami Hurricanes team is one that won't soon be forgotten. ACC regular season champions. ACC tournament champions. Sweet 16. 5 seniors. NBA draft bound sophomore. The whole team is unforgettable.

But that's all over now. Miami's top 6 leading scorers from last season have all moved on. So who exactly is left? Well, here's a fancy chart (ALSO KNOWN AS THE MIAMI HOOPS SCHOLARSHIP MATRIX AWWWW YEAAHHHH) that I made that gives you a look at the program through the 2017 season in terms of the scholarships that are left, who's using them, and how many years they have left.

Some things to note:

* Garrius Adams was a senior last year, but received a medical redshirt, and thus, has one year remaining of eligibility.

* Miami only had 11 scholarship players last season even though the NCAA allows 13.

* Adonys Henriquez is currently committed to Miami but has not signed a Letter of Intent. Consider his spot not guaranteed.

* James Kelly is coming from Junior College, and because of that, enters with only 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Miami currently has 5 open scholarships for the 2013-14 season, and don't expect them to use all of those. The word around the program is that the Canes will be taking AT LEAST one transfer for next season, but probably no more than two. There is also talk of Miami looking overseas for a recruit, and while I don't have any names at the moment, that's something to keep an eye on. Also keep in mind that Cornelius Elder and Derrick Griffin want to play both football and basketball at Miami. If they do appear for the basketball team, they will not count against the scholarship cap, as they would be on football scholarship.

As you can see, the 2014-15 class figures to be a very big one, with 5 unfilled scholarships for this season and 4 more opening up after next season.
