Miami Hurricanes forward Dewan Hernandez has hired a private attorney in hopes of retuning to action this season.

According to reports, Hernandez is working with attorney Jason Setchen to resolve his eligibility relating to the NCAA’s audit. Setchen is the same individual who assisted DeQuan Jones regain his eligibility in 2011 in light of the Nevin Shapiro scandal.

Hernandez is still practicing with the team in hopes of being cleared to play. He is likely to step in immediately and contribute in the event that he is cleared to play.

The absence is Deng Gak for the rest of the season due to injury and Rodney Miller to a redshirt have thinned the frontcourt of this team. Hernandez’s return would not only provide depth at post, but provide depth to the entire roster—currently with just seven active scholarship players.

UPDATE: According to Jim Larrañaga, an update regarding Hernandez’s status is expected to arrive by the end of the day.
