Miami Freshman Profile: Kiy Hester

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Freshman Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's newcomers for 2014. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

24/7 Sports

Kiy Hester

S - 6'0 200 - Wayne, NJ (DePaul Catholic H.S.)

4 star prospect and ESPN's 7th best player in the state of New Jersey, chose UM over Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan State, Rutgers and many others.

H.S. teammate of UM freshman DT Courtel Jenkins.

Likely projects as a SS, but has good enough ball skills to play FS as well.   Best attribute however is his hitting/tackling ability.

Is a heat seeking missile to the ball, with amazing closing speed, and packs a potent punch when he gets there. Looks to be a future game changer.

Chances He Redshirts (1-10)   - 2

As part of this series we will evaluate if the given newcomer stands a chance to sit out his first season to retain eligibility.

I expect to see Hester and his bone crushing tackles a lot on special teams this year.  Is he good enough to overtake Rayshawn Jenkins, Dallas Crawford, Deon Bush, and Jamal Carter for significant PT at the S spots?  Maybe not just yet.  But his raw ability should help him see the field enough to gain valuable experience as a true freshman.

Summary:  How can watch this kid's highlights and not gush over what he brings to the table?  Hester is sure to be a fan favorite in the coming years with his intensity and thunderous hits. More importantly, his presence assures that the back end of the Miami defense should be more sound in the tackling department and hopefully intimidate a few opposing ball carrier/receivers as well.

Stay tuned for more Freshman profiles as we count down to Louisville on Labor Day.
