Miami Player Profile: Calvin Heurtelou

New, 6 comments

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Player/Freshman/Newcomer Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's players/newcomers for 2014. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

Calvin Heurtelou

DT - 6'3 305 -Spring Valley, NY (Scottsdale Community College JC)

3 star prospect who picked the 'Canes over Rutgers, Tennessee, and Arizona among others.

Had 2 sacks, 4 TFL, and a fumble recovery in just 8 games last year in JC.

Reportedly can bench press 445 pounds and squat 575.

Powerfully built guy, who should be ready to play ASAP, and has surprisingly good feet for a man his size.

Summary: It's always hard to project how JUCO players will pan out at the next level.  Heurtelou's highlights/film are not quite as eye popping as that of Michael Wyche.  But he looks stout enough, and moves pretty good for a guy his size.  Also reportedly has a 28 inch vertical leap, which is pretty athletic for a 305 pound man. My best guess is that Wyche is the starter at NT, and Olsen Pierre because of his extensive experience gets the first look behind him. But Herts will get a long look and could surprise folks if he can hold his ground in the middle and get some push when teams pass on early downs.  Overall should be an improvement over what UM has had the past two seasons in terms of depth at the DT/NT position.
