Miami Freshman Profile: Marques Gayot

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Freshman Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's newcomers for 2014. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

24/7 Sports

Marques Gayot

S - 6'1 210 - Lake Worth, Fl (Park Vista H.S.)

3 star prospect who chose UM over Louisville, California, and USF among others.

Picked off 4 passes his senior season.

Reportedly runs about a 4.6 or 4.7 40.

Sound tackler with good range on the back end.  Showed the ability to play both S spots in H.S.  His skill set probably translated to SS at the next level, especially if he adds some weight to his already very solid frame.

Chances He Redshirts (1-10)   - 8

As part of this series we will evaluate if the given newcomer stands a chance to sit out his first season to retain eligibility.

Gayot is a smart player with a nose for the ball. But Dallas Crawford, Deon Bush, fellow freshman Kiy Hester, and Jamal Carter are among the players at arguably UM's deepest position on defense that Gayot will be competing for snaps with.

Summary: I love how this kid plays and especially how he hits. He'll need to get a little faster to become a big time player, but that should come with a year or two in UM's strength and conditioning program. Could end up teaming up with Hester to form one of the most intimidating S combos in the ACC down the line. Certainly looks a bit underrated at 3 stars.  Should be fun to watch Gayot plant opposing ball carriers in the years to come.

Stay tuned for more Freshman profiles as we count down to Louisville on Labor Day.
