Miami Freshman Profile: Darrell Langham

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Freshman Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's newcomers for 2014. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

Darrell Langham

WR - 6'5 190 - Lake Worth, FL (Santaluces Community H.S.)

3 star prospect who chose Miami over Arkansas, FSU, Clemson, and Illinois among others, although Miami was his only official visit.

There are some concerns over whether or not Langham will qualify.  Word is, he SHOULD be okay.

Is already polished in jump ball situations, and obviously has good size for the red zone. Looks like a fluid athlete coming out of his breaks, and catches the ball smoothly with his hands.

Needs to add a little bulk to his frame to withstand the punishment/physicality at this level.

Chances He Redshirts (1-10)   -  9

As part of this series we will evaluate if the given newcomer stands a chance to sit out his first season to retain eligibility.

Could Langham see some time on the field inside the 20?  It is possible.  But I suspect the staff retains his eligibility while he refines his game.  His route running will also need to get a little sharper as D1 DBs will be a little more difficult to overwhelm with pure size and athleticism.

Summary: Langham has one thing that can not be taught, a 6'5 frame.  I am not sure he ever puts on the weight to be a Kelvin Benjamin type, but he can definitely be a factor in the passing game in the coming years. With the way Miami has been recruiting of late, the WR position looks like it is going to be especially competitive in the coming years, so he will need to develop all aspects of his game in order to be one the 'Canes most utilized weapons. Very intriguing prospect.
