Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington CB Nigel Bethel verbally committed to the University of Miami this past Friday. The next day his teammate DE Chad Thomas joined him and committed to Miami as well.
"It feels very good," Bethel said. "I called him (coach Golden) and was like I'm ready to be a Miami Hurricane-- I'm very excited that me and my teammates were able to commit to the same team."
After Bethel committed, he did not waste anytime to start recruiting Thomas to UM.
"I had a little talk with him," Bethel said. "I was like you should make the decision and come to Miami with me. You would have me as a friend if you don't know anyone else down there at this moment. We can bring the national championship back to Miami, let's give back to our hometown."
The 4-star defender originally planned to commit to a school a few weeks ago, but he decided he wanted to take a few more trips before he did so.
"After I took the trip to Alabama, I didn't feel like that is a place I see myself at for the next three to four year," Bethel said. "When I went to Florida State I saw it was pretty much a party town. I feel like I wouldn't have been able to stay focused at Florida State. I stayed home in Miami, because I know I have a lot of people that will keep me on the right track."
Looking ahead, Bethel does not expect to visit any other schools. "I'm planning on shutting it down, but if I do take visits it will not mean anything, because I'm solid with my commitment," Bethel said.
Bethel does not expect to be an early graduate, because he wants to run track during his senior year and possibly win the state title in track.
