Behind a spectacular day from Stephen Morris, and solid receiving efforts from Clive Walford, Phillip Dorsett, and Herb Waters, Miami rolled to its' easiest win of the season 40-9 at Sun Life Stadium. The 'Canes are now bowl eligible.

No one knows yet if the University of Miami will self impose a postseason ban. But if they decide to play and finish off the ACC Coastal Division Championship with a win next week over Duke, today's performance just might make them a little scarier for FSU and/or any potential bowl opponent.

Morris from sharp from the get go, and hit Walford for 34 yards on UM's opening offensive snap to set the tone. A stingy defense and some sharp passes kept Miami in control of the first quarter and a half, however they were kept out of the end zone and settled for 3 Jake Wieclaw field goals and a 9-0 lead.

Any hopes USF had to move the ball consistently seemed to be wiped out in the 2nd quarter when Denzel Perryman knocked USF QB Bobby Eveld from the game with a ferocious hit. Eveld was replaced by freshman Matt Floyd.

Following a beautiful interception by Jimmy Gaines, Morris and UM finally found the end zone via an absolute laser to Kendall Thompkins from 15 yards. USF cut into the margin just before the half on a 23 yard FG by Maikon Bonani, but the game did not look or feel anywhere near that close.

The Hurricanes got right to work in the 3rd quarter. Morris and Dorsett connected a number of quick passes, and Duke Johnson capped the opening drive of the half with a scintillating 8 yard scamper. A few possessions later Miami would put the game well out of reach when Morris would draw the defense offside and take advantage of the free play with a bomb to Waters for 87 yards. Morris' hard count and ability to capitalize when drawing the defense in the neutral zone is beginning to look like a trademark, and has been a nice weapon all year.

In the fourth the highlight reel continued when Morris scrambled to create time, rolled to his right and unloaded to a wide open Walford for 65 yard TD and a 37-3 lead. From that point forward, Miami played mostly back-ups.

Morris finished the game 21-32 for 432 yards and 3 TDs.

Duke Johnson had 66 yards rushing and a TD.

Dorsett was sure-handed all day led the receivers with 11 catches for 104 yards. Walford added 3-135, and the freshman Waters who filled in for an injured Allen Hurns accumulated 4 for 130.

No matter what happens this week, Miami will travel Durham to take on the Duke Blue Devils. Whether the game is for a trip to the ACC Championship game remains to be seen.

Regardless of how long Miami's season goes on, Coach Al Golden and staff can definitely look at today as a day they young Hurricanes took a major step forward in their development. And in what has been an up and down season, that is great news for Miami fans!!

Miami takes on the South Florida Bulls in the final home game of the season.

I could probably write a whole mess of words about what this game means. Sure, it doesn't mean a thing as far as the Coastal division race, but in some ways, it means so, so much more. Our healthy seniors are playing their last home game. The injured seniors will be on the sidelines, listening to the crowd, watching their family play.

It's First Responders Day, as well. The men and women who risk their lives here on home soil whenever they are needed to make sure you and yours are safe from harm.

Oh, and it's the last home game of the year. Regardless of how we feel about the stadium, the coaches, the team, or the fans, we are all one big family, and it's time to come together and cheer on the team we love.

Go Canes. It's as simple as that.

The official injury report for the USF game was released today, and it made permanent some extremely sad news. Senior wide received Davon Johnson is out for the year with a knee injury. It was released yesterday that he was hurt during practice, but the extent was not known until today. Davon was having by far his best season as a Hurricane, and with two games left on the schedule (for now), his career in Miami is over. Tough break for a fantastic young man.

Outside of that, Deon Bush is officially listed as out for the USF game. This puts the pressure on Rogers, Telemaque, and Swasey. Here's the full report:

Do Commuter Schools Dream of Electric Fans in Seats?

Eschewing the traditional preview, we here at the State of The U are bringing you all the (mostly meaningless) things one needs to know prior to this week's match-up. The only rule? No game predictions. Today gives us the South Florida Bulls, the only school we can point down towards and laugh at regarding lack of attendance. Then we remember they started playing football a mere 15 years ago, and have zero winning tradition outside of the most outlier college football season ever in history. Tears of embarrassing sadness, recommence!

¿Quien?

South Florida Bulls

3-6 (1-4 Big East)

Last meeting: Miami won 6-3 in 2011

The Bulls stopped the hemorrhaging of a 6-game losing streak with a 13-6 win over Connecticut, and have had a week off to bask in that glory. They come down to Miami (Gardens, natch) for the final time during the latest contract signed between the two schools. After Miami's visit up to Tampa next year, the two sides would have to re-up to keep playing.

¿Donde?

Tampa, Florida

Is there anything in Tampa that can't be found in a better form over in St. Petersburg? They have the ocean, 360 days of sunshine every year, and most importantly, they have the Home Shopping Network.

¿Cuando?

3:00 PM EST

TV: RSN (Sun Sports in South Florida)

Radio: 560 WQAM (Local), Caracol 1260 AM (Spanish), 90.5 FM W VEEEEEEE UM (Student), Sirius 136 / XM 195

¿Colores?

Green and Gold. Rather impressive they didn't go for some combination of florescent, what with them originating the football team in the brutal stretch of teal and tangerine orange that was the mid '90s.

¿Stadium?

Sun Life Stadium

Miami Gardens, Florida

The final home game for the Canes this year, which also means it's Senior Day.
¿Food and Nightlife?

The Biltmore Hotel Cascade

Situated on the extravagantly beautiful Biltmore pool, you can't go wrong with renting a poolside cabana and grabbing a grouper sandwich with key lime sauce. Because it is the Biltmore, you can decide to go all pelotas out, and instead venture over to the Fontana courtyard for the $75 per person all you can eat Sunday brunch. I used to be a server here (where wasn't I?) and lemme tell ya, you definitely want to be one of the people eating those fist-sized shrimp, not the ones who want to punch you in the face while they serve it to you.

Versailles Restaurant

Locals will definitely know this classic spot, and every serious presidential candidate is an ignorant chump if they expect the Cuban vote without stopping in for a bite. It's the closest you'll get food-wise to Havana in the Continental U.S. A place so perfectly Cuban, your 40+ year old waitress will be smoking hot and in possession of a 20 year old Latin ass, wearing tight pants to show off all she has. Speaking Spanish to you, straight cracker gringo looking and all, without thinking twice. The better for you to practice.

¿Last Minute Ticket Grab?

Joey and Vinny and Tito should have anything you want, right on the outskirts of the front gate. Bring cash, and counter bid for no more than half of what they offer.

¿All-Time Record?

Miami leads 3-1. As mentioned above, this series stands to end next year. Hurricanes fans tend to side with being happy it is ending, because YOU CANT LET LITTLE BROTHER BEAT YOU, ARGGGHHH. That's ridiculous. Miami has to play someone out of conference. Why force your team to travel to say, Manhattan Kansas, the middle of the country, instead of just a four hour bus ride? Why play a middle-tier SEC school, when a middle-tier Big East school is right here? The purpose of college football is to win, right? Last I checked, five years from now, all that matters is what your record was. No one will remember Miami had a zillion freshman playing this year, or suspensions galore, etc., they'll remember the record. Play one big time school each year, and trade off FAU, FIU, UCF, and USF every couple years. Enough of this crap about how it can only help them, it only hurts Miami. If Miami wins these games, and they most certainly will do so many more times than they lose, it helps Miami.

¿Impact Players?

USF's all everything B.J. Daniels career looks to be over, as he sustained an ankle injury during the Connecticut victory. Daniels wasn't having the best of seasons, but he leaves the Big East with the 3rd highest offensive yardage total in the conference's <strike>illustrious</strike> history. USF coach Skip Holtz hasn't yet named a starter between Matt Floyd or Bobby Eveld, but only Floyd has thrown a pass this year. Miami is favored for the first time in weeks, and it's not like that was against consistent top flight competition. Given this week's preview post is under strict deadlines, we're going to assume USF doesn't really have any other impact players. Bet the simple syrup juice on it, folks.

Ahead of this weekend's game, SOTU sits down for a friendly Q&A with our partners over at Voodoo 5, SB Nation's resident South Florida blog.

As per usual, we have managed to rope someone into answering our idiotic questions ahead of a game. This time, we wrangled Jamie DeVriend over at Voodoo Five. In the spirit of last year's 6-3 barn burner Canes victory, we limited the questions to 9, or the total that both teams managed to score in ONE ENTIRE COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME.

You can find our answers to their questions HERE, or by clicking the link above and heading over to their site!

SOTU: Let's start off with a hard hitter. You guys allowed my alma mater UT-Chattanooga to score 13 points. How the hell did that happen?

VOODOO: Turnovers. Chattanooga had a four-yard touchdown drive and a three-yard drive for a field goal. Other than that they got nothing.

SOTU: I'm looking through your schedule, and I am seeing a lot of close games against good teams. Should this worry me, or are some of those scores closer than the games actually were?

VOODOO: No, they really were that close. The problem is that USF wants to play these close games every week, no matter how good or bad the opponent is, and then rely on their defense to close the games out for them, but they just can't do it. UConn was the only game they've been able to protect a lead in, and that was more because the Huskies are so incredibly pathetic and poorly-run on offense.

SOTU: How do you guys hope to contain Duke Johnson this week? Will you kick it to him?

VOODOO: The Bulls probably can't stop him on defense. The defensive line hasn't gotten much push against most offensive lines and Johnson is fast enough and shifty enough to run away from the linebackers and break a big one. Fortunately Marvin Kloss has 33 touchbacks on 47 kickoffs, and many of the non-touchbacks were because he was kicking into the wind. So they should be able to neutralize Duke's impact on special teams.

SOTU: It feels like BJ Daniels has been there forever. Between him and the running game, should Canes fans worry about being gashed?

VOODOO: As you realized about 1 second after sending this, Daniels broke his ankle against UConn and is done for the year. Also Lindsey Lamar, who was leading the team in rushing, was hurt against Syracuse and he's also done. That leaves the USF running game in the hands of Demetris Murray, who has not been as good as he was the last two years, and Marcus Shaw, who Skip Holtz trusts about as far as he can throw him.

Remember how the USF running game completely shut down last year against Miami when Danels got knocked of the game? Gangly Bobby Eveld was no threat to carry the ball and all the option run stuff was dead in the water. They haven't used that package as much this year, but it is still part of the run game, and if Matt Floyd is not credible as a runner, it shouldn't be too hard to slow down the Bulls running game. (Please note that I don't buy into the idea of Eveld starting at quarterback for one second, and it's driving me crazy that Holtz is trying to play possum when he said way back in August that he was planning to redshirt Eveld.)

SOTU: Not seeing any of your games, how is your defense performing so far? Specifically, are you better against the run or the pass?

VOODOO: This defense sucks. I already talked about the underwhelming defensive line. The linebackers are halfway decent, but the secondary is injury-ravaged and they were a mess even when they were healthy. This defense isn't coached well, it doesn't get sacks, it rarely forces turnovers, and it can't get off the field on third down. The worst part is that they're probably equally bad against the run or the pass.

SOTU: How does the Bulls' offensive line work? Will our defensive line be able to do anything? Please say yes.

VOODOO: We're really going to find out how good the line is with B.J. Daniels out. Earlier in the season, he covered up for a lot of bad O-line play because he could run away from sacks and keep plays alive. Then starting with the FSU game and going forward from there, the line stabilized, even with some injuries robbing it of all its experience. Mark Popek and Danous Estenor (both senior starters) may be back this week, which is good because Floyd is not nearly as confident in the offense as Daniels was, and he'll need as much time as the line can give him.

SOTU: Do you think the Big East is on its death bed?

VOODOO: I might have had a different answer six months ago, but despite John Swofford's best efforts, it is not. The big key was finding out on Monday that the Big East and all the conferences underneath it will still have guaranteed access to BCS 2.0 (the highest-ranked team from that group will get a bid). Yes, the Big East was weakened in realignment, but they in turn weakened the Mountain West and damn near destroyed Conference USA. That guaranteed bid to a "host bowl" should belong to the Big East almost every year, and if it doesn't, at least we'll all be spared the embarrassment of sending another 8-4 UConn team to the Fiesta Bowl.

I think the conference is going to be stable for awhile because of the guaranteed bid, because there's no incentive for anyone else to expand, and because the conference will get a new TV deal here pretty soon. Not surprisingly, the Big East declined to re-up with ESPN (you wouldn't either if they'd spent a year bashing you and possibly colluding with the ACC to try and destroy you) and the deal will probably be divided up among a number of networks to maximize its value. I don't think they can get ACC-level money, but they should end up much, much better off than they are now.

SOTU: What is your prediction for the game? Who wins, by how much, and who performs the besets?

VOODOO: Even with Miami getting some of their guys back on defense, I don't think either team is very good on that side of the ball. Miami will get their points. It all comes down to whether or not Matt Floyd and the offense can keep up with them. I think the Canes win regardless, but it could get ugly if Floyd struggles.

SOTU: BONUS QUESTION: from our writer aint no lobos: Magic Mike - just how many Oscars? Channing Tatum rocks the Tampa heartland. Accurate depiction of everyday Bay life?

VOODOO: It better be all of the Oscars, especially one for the casting director for putting Matthew McConaughey in the role he was clearly born to play. My wife and I saw the movie together and laughed hysterically all the way through. My Facebook summary: "Strippers, hurricanes, illicit money, diving off bridges, tattoos, pickup trucks, day laborers, bad credit, Ecstasy pills, and a broken-down pro wrestler. I've concluded that 'Magic Mike' is the most Tampa movie ever made." And of course I support any depiction of any everyday life in which Olivia Munn takes her clothes off a lot. (makes phone receiver with his hand and mouths "call me")
